FORT MILL, S.C. — Continental Tire the Americas is marking a milestone for its ContiTrack2 digital inspection tool, noting that it's been used to measure 1 million truck tires in the U.S. since its introduction in 2012.
The tool and software, which identify and track the treadwear and tire pressure of commercial tires in real time, are part of Continental's suite of solutions for a fleet's lowest overall driving cost.
Used by Conti field sales representatives and dealers, ContiTrack2 measures tread depth, air pressure, mismatched dual tires and irregular wear, digitally tracking, photographing and analyzing data in password-protected cloud-based software. The data are formatted into reports using a connected device such as an iPhone, iPad or Android.
Reports also include a summary of potential dollars lost through under-inflation or premature tire removal, as well as mismatched duals, Continental said. Solution mapping is provided, and forecast projections help a fleet plan for upcoming needs.
Scrap tire analysis can be performed to give a report on why tires were removed from service.
Using the data, fleets have been able to extend the life of their tires, reduce fuel consumption and decrease the likelihood of breakdowns, according to Paul Williams, Continental's executive vice president of commercial vehicle tires in the Americas.
In addition to ContiTrack2, Continental also offers other digital tire monitoring systems, including: ContiPressureCheck TPMS, which monitors a single vehicle's tire pressure and temperature issues in real time, and ContConnect, which monitors an entire fleet when vehicles are in the terminal.
