MIAMI — Tire Group International L.L.C. (TGI) has upgraded its Cosmo-brand tire range as it prepares to offer the brand in Europe for the first time.

Launched originally in 1994 as a bias light- and medium-duty truck tire brand, the Cosmo brand today offers an assortment of agricultural, industrial and OTR products in addition to radial passenger, light truck and truck/bus tires, TGI said. The brand is produced in Thailand by an unidentified manufacturer.

In Europe, TGI will offer the Cosmo brand in performance passenger and medium truck/bus tires, including long-haul, regional, urban and on-/off-road tread patterns. The Miami-based company will launch the brand to European customers at the upcoming Tire Cologne trade show May 30-June 1 in Cologne, Germany.

"Cosmo Tires have always been engineered and constructed to meet the world's most demanding work conditions, using Latin America as our proving grounds, Cosmo is truly quality tested," TGI Chairman and CEO Tony Gonzalez.Gonzalez said.

TGI will distribute the Cosmo range in Europe by containerloads only, the company said, direct-shipped from the factory in Thailand to customers.

This is the first time TGI has attempted to sell one its proprietary brands in Europe, a company representative said. Miami-based TGI's primary business is in Latin America, including the Caribbean.

Cosmo is one of TGI's six proprietary brands; the others are Astro, Atlas, Industar, Luna and Orion. The wholesale distributor also represents other manufacturers' brands, including MRF, Cooper, Mastercraft, Sumitomo, Milestar, Kenda, Mickey Thompson, Titan, and Galaxy.
