SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Tire Rack Inc. has renewed its title sponsorship of the One Lap of America road rally for a 16th consecutive year.
The 2018 One Lap of America starts May 5 at Tire Rack headquarters in South Bend and finishes back at Tire Rack HQ May 12 after navigating 3,459 miles of U.S roadways through a dozen states and various time trials at eight race tracks.
This year's event has attracted a sellout field of 85 entries.
"Tire Rack welcomes the 35th edition of the One Lap of America. A partnership that began 16 years ago," said Matt Edmonds, Executive Vice President, Tire Rack, "and carries on in 2018 with a sellout field of 85 teams competing for a week for the overall win as well as numerous class bragging rights.
"Due to our decades of experience in the tire and wheel industry," Tire Rack Executive Vice President Matt Edmonds said, "we are passionate about continuing to support and educate drivers from all experience levels about the capabilities of their tires and how proper maintenance, traction, safety and durability can be maximized on and off the track.
"The combination of road drives and track competitions that occur during the One Lap adventure embody all of these facets."
The Tire Rack One Lap of America is the modern-day version of the Cannonball Sea to Shining Sea Memorial Trophy Dash of 1970 — a "race" on public roads from New York to Los Angeles.
Today's One Lap of America challenges participants to endure transit drives of over 400 miles daily and compete on a dozen of America's most challenging racetracks during the eight-day event.
