WASHINGTON — Les Schwab Tire Centers is recalling 41,336 radial truck tires it retreaded for customers because of incomplete adhesion of the tread to the casing.
The tires were manufactured in all three of Les Schwab's retread plants between Oct. 16 and Dec. 15, 2017, and bear the following DOTR numbers:
- Prineville, Ore.: RDNJ4217RS-RDNJ5017RS.
- Spokane, Wash.: RNVK4417RS-RVNK5017RS.
- Rupert, Idaho: RCEE4417RS-RCEE5017RS.
Approximately half of the tires were manufactured with improperly cured gum rubber from a new supplier, Les Schwab told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The company said it is recalling all the tires in those lots to make sure all the potentially defective tires are off the road.
Les Schwab said it has heard of no reports of tread separations or accidents arising from these tires, although one tire had a piece of tread torn away without further separation.
Les Schwab said the problem was linked to "possible incomplete curing" of gum rubber it sourced from Hexpol A.B., which resulted in incomplete adhesion of the tread to the casing in about half of the tires covered by the recall.
Les Schwab notified dealers of the recall March 20, but NHTSA said the company had not yet provided a schedule for the notification of owners.
Tire owners may call Les Schwab at 541-416-4136 for more information.
