FINDLAY, Ohio — Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. has added another winter tire to its Mastercraft line — the Mastercraft Glacier Trex, a studdable tire for passenger and crossover vehicles.
The Glacier Trex will replace certain sizes of the Mastercraft Glacier Grip II tire line, but other sizes of the Glacier Grip II will continue to be offered as well. The Glacier Trex is the third line in the Mastercraft winter portfolio.
Cooper said the new tire is severe-weather rated and offers superior braking and handling on snow and ice. It has a directional tread patter that the tire maker said improves acceleration and braking on snow while evacuating water and resisting hydroplaning.
The Glacier Trex is designed with Cooper's "snow groove" technology that the firm said locks snow into the tread, which enhances traction from snow on snow grip.
The tire's corrugated, multi-angled sipes enhance grip and stability when turning corners, Cooper said.
The Glacier Trex tire will debut in August in 35 passenger car and crossover sizes for rim sizes between 14 and 18 inches. The tires carry T and H speed ratings, Cooper said.
Dealers may begin placing orders within the next few weeks. Pricing is not available.
Cooper's Mastercraft brand now offers 18 lines, available in all applications, including passenger, SUV and light truck.
