SPARTANBURG, S.C. — BMW A.G. has added the Kumho Crugen HP91 ultra-high-performance tire as an OE fitment on its latest-generation X3 four-door hatchback sport activity vehicle (SAV).
Kumho Tire Co. Inc. is delivering the UHP tire in size 245/50R19 105W XL to BMW's assembly plant in Spartanburg, S.C., where BMW builds the all-wheel-drive X3, according to Kumho Reifen G.m.b.H., the South Korean tire maker's German sales subsidiary.
Spartanburg is the sole assembly plant for the X3, which debuted in North America last November and will be released gradually in other markets around the world,
BMW is offering three versions of the X3 — the xDrive20d and xDrive30d, powered by turbocharged inline 2-liter 4- and 6-cylinder engines, respectively, and M40i, a higher performance edition with a 3-liter version of the 6-cylinder engine.
Kumho describes the Crugen HP91 as a UHP tire for SUVs, offering "outstanding" aquaplaning resistance, driving stability at high speed, low wear thanks to the use of highly dispersible silica and the firm's "ESCOT" casing technology for improved handling. The HP91 is not a run-flat.
Other OE fitments for the X3 include the Yokohama Advan Sport V105 in two SKUs — 225/60R18 104W or 245/50R19 105W, the latter of which is a run-flat version.
