MONTREAL — Tire repair distributor International Tire Repair Solutions Inc. (ITRS) has acquired Vulcan-Vulcap Industries Inc., a Toronto-based tire repair and retread equipment manufacturer.

Vulcan-Vulcap designs and manufactures tire repair, retread and curing equipment, including section repair mold, ''C'' Clamp, spotter, retread equipment and the Vulcaflex Vulcanizing Repair system.

Vulcan-Vulcap repairs tires ranging from truck tires to 54, 5/80/57 (giant) OTR tires, and its Vulcatouch PLC-based control systems with touch screens control and automate the repair curing cycle. These control systems offer safety, data storing and automatic control features.

The firm also manufactures treadmolders, tread builder/stitchers, precure tread chambers for truck and OTR equipment, as well as a range of tire repair and retread accessories.

ITRS CEO Gilles Wauthy said he wants the company to be the leader in recycling through repair, "providing the retread and OTR industry with the safest certified and government approved equipment to our customers," he said. "We want to provide the safest service, and we believe that starts by providing a safe, proven product that produces the best results at a competitive price."

David Dandeneault, vice president of ITRS, said the acquisition gives the company the ability to "revolutionize the vulcanizing industry with custom products and competitive pricing."

ITRS said the C2G Tire Management program can lower cost per mile and save 30-40 percent of tires said to be scrap with its cable replacement process.

ITRS, founded in 1999, has offices in Mexico, Costa Rica and Panama, as well as Montreal. It provides service and support, tire repair material, tooling, training and certification.
