Michelin now offers a checkered-flag motif on the sidewalls of 21- and 22-inch versions of the Pilot Sport 4S.

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Michelin North America Inc. has expanded the size range of its Pilot Sport 4S ultra-high-performance tire line with 34 new SKUs and 11 more coming in March and May.

The addition of the new SKUs — ranging from 215/45ZR17/XL (91Y) to 275/40ZR22/XL (107Y) — expands the range to 76 sizes, Michelin said.

Michelin launched the Pilot Sport 4S in early 2017, saying it offers "unprecedented" driving pleasure, "exceptional" steering precision and "tremendous" directional stability, while also providing maximum grip on wet or dry roads.

Designed for sports cars and high-performance vehicles, the tire is Y speed rated (186+ mph) and offers a 30,000-mile limited treadwear warranty.

It's considered a successor to the Pilot Super Sport and combines that product's best aspects with key attributes of the Pilot Sport Cup 2, Michelin said.

Since its launch last year, the tire has earned Tire Rack Inc.'s No. 1 rank for a max-performance summer tire and been has been selected as an OE fitment by BMW A.G., Ferrari S.p.A., Ford Motor Co., Mercedes-Benz A.G. and Porsche A.G.

Michelin also touts the tire's aesthetic design — featuring patented "Premium Touch Design" velvet sidewall branding — as complementing the vehicles it fits. Michelin has taken this feature one step further for tires in the 21- and 22-inch rim diameter sizes, adding a checkered-flag pattern to the sidewall branding.

All sizes include a rim protector that will help avoid contact between the wheel rim and curb.

The Pilot Sport 4 S is produced at Michelin plants in Greenville, S.C., and Clermont-Ferrand, France.

Suggested retail prices start at $269.99 for a 245/30 ZR19 and range up to $428.99 for a 305/30 ZR20, according to information on michelinman.com.
