WINNEPEG, Manitoba — Olive Storey, former executive director of the Western Canada Tire Dealers (WCTD), died on Jan. 22. She was 89.
Ms. Storey, former owner of Advanx Tire, was among the first women to hold a senior executive position in the tire industry in North America when she was accepted the position with WCTD in 1983. She held the position for 15 years.
Ms. Story and her husband, Gord Storey, a sales manager at Dunlop Tires, bought Advanx Tire after they were married in 1950, while establishing a wholesale division, Astro Tire Distributors BC Ltd.
In 1972, Mr. Storey died, and Ms. Storey became one of the first female general managers of an independent tire company in Canada, according to the WCTD. She expanded the retail network and modernized existing facilities, including the office.
British Columbia-based Kal Tire purchased Advanx Tire in 1981.
In 2012, Ms. Storey was inducted into the WCTD Hall of Fame.
A celebration of Ms. Storey's life, conducted by her nephew Father Michael Storey, will be held on March 3 at 2 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Memorial Garden in Winnipeg. A reception will follow.
