North Country Tire Distributors partnering with Point-S in Western Canada

EDMONTON, Alberta — Edmonton-based distributor North Country Tire Distributors Ltd. (NCT) has agreed to partner with Point-S Canada to bring the Point S retail program to dealers in Western Canada.

The deal will provide a platform for Point-S Canada to "consolidate our presence in Western Canada and offer a stress-free alternative to consumers," Bruno Leclair, president and CEO of the Montreal-based company, said.

Point-S said it expects the NCT to sign 10 to 15 customers a year for the next few years to the Point S program, starting with the one retail outlet that NCT operates. The agreement covers Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan.

There are more than 200 Point-S-branded retail locations in Quebec, Ontario and the Atlantic Provinces.

NCT operates wholesale distribution centers in Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta. It lists Cooper, Federal, Hankook, Laufenn, Kumho, Mirage, Pirelli, Roadmaster, Starfire, Super Cargo and Wind Power among the consumer and commercial tire brands it distributes.

NCT President Cory Davis called the agreement a "unique partnership" for his company, saying Point S provides a "large toolbox that can be put to good use by our dealers. They will have access to the many benefits of the brand to differentiate themselves in their communities and to increase both their presence and their sales."

At the same time, he added, the deal brings new manufacturer relationships to NCT's brand portfolio, including a private-label offering, territory protection, an "unequaled" marketing force and a customized online transaction site.

"The success of the Point S banner, compounded with our expertise, competitive prices and exceptional service will assuredly create the most attractive platform for a dealer seeking to boost their sales and grow awareness in their area."

Pneus Unimax Ltd., the Boucherville, Quebec-based wholesaler that administers the Point S program in Canada, hired industry veteran Jeff Bullock last May to be business development manager for Canada's English-speaking portions and tasked him with expanding Unimax's interests — including the Point S retail program — throughout Ontario and western Canada.

Unimax has been the Point S franchisor in Canada since 2012
