WASHINGTON — The Automotive Service Association (ASA) is urging its members and other interested parties to send a message to Congress supporting a vehicle data access bill sponsored by Rep. Earl "Buddy" Carter, R-Ga.
The bill would create a stakeholder committee within the U.S. Department of Transportation, allowing policy makers to hear from all sides of the debate on automated vehicle policy. It would ensure that independent auto repairers have a voice in the discussion, the ASA said.
Both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Federal Trade Commission would have representatives on the committee, the association said.
"This bill acknowledges the rapidly changing nature of automotive technology and would provide much needed insight to Congress, as well as federal regulators," the ASA said.
Interested parties can send a message of support for the bill, through an online link.
