HANOVER, Germany — Industrial tire and track maker Camso Ltd. has developed "smart-track" technology to help improve the durability of rubber tracks used on farm equipment.
Camso — formerly Camoplast Solideal — unveiled the technology during the company's appearance at the recent Agritechnica trade show in Hanover.
According to Camso, as the market heads toward more specialized applications and larger, heavier and faster machines, the patent-pending technology will improve the track's durability, helping farmers protect their investment.
The first part of the technology involves high-speed roading, according to the company, allowing farmers to operate at maximum transport efficiency,
"Our integrated solution allows for optimal machine speed while avoiding heat build-up, which can cause premature track damage," said Martin Lunkenbein, service and aftermarket sales executive director – agriculture at Camso.
Magog, Quebec-basedCamso said the technology includes a temperature sensor imbedded in the track. If the track reaches a designated high temperature, the sensor sends a signal to the tractor, ensuring that the speed is adjusted to prevent track wear.
"We're looking forward to expanding current partnerships with OEMs," Mr. Lunkenbein said. "Their customers will be among the first to benefit from these new technologies we're bringing to market.
Camso, designs manufactures and distributes off-road tires, wheels, rubber tracks and undercarriage systems to serve the material handling, construction, agricultural and powersports industries.
Earlier this year, Camso acquired two tire distributors in Texas, expanding its U.S. distribution presence in Texas and Louisiana.
