BOWIE, Md. — The deadline for applying for 2018-19 Michelin/TIA Scholarship is Jan. 31, the Tire Industry Association announced.
Michelin/TIA will award $6,250 in scholarships — one $3,000 award (a total of four years not to exceed $12,000) and two $1,625 awards (a total of four years not to exceed $6,500 each) — to individuals linked to TIA member companies. The award will be applied to tuition, fees and books.
The eligibility requirements for scholarship applicants are:
- Must either a part-time employee or dependent child of a full-time employee of a TIA member tire dealer. Employees must be employed by the company at the time of application;
- Must be a high school senior planning to pursue a post-secondary education at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university or vocational technical school; and
- Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Michelin North America Inc. employees and dependent children are not eligible.
All recipients must be full-time each semester and working toward an undergraduate degree.
The deadline for submission of the online portion of the application (www.scholarshipprograms.org) is Jan. 31.
Additional required materials must be received by 5 p.m. on Jan. 31. Additional materials required must be mailed in one envelope to: Michelin TIA Scholarship, P.O. Box 1465, Taylors, S.C. 29687.
The email address or contact information provided on the application will be used to notify all of the complete applicants of the decisions of the committee.
TIA said the Michelin/TIA scholarships have been awarded every year since 2000. Since its inception, more than $256,000 has been awarded to 55 recipients who have gone on to attend accredited two-year, four-year, technical or vocational schools.
The most recent ones were announced at TIA's awards night Oct. 30 in Las Vegas.
