WASHINGTON — China's Zhaoqing Junhong Co. Ltd. is recalling 1,916 Antares Comfort A5 light truck tires because of the potential for a sidewall separation.
Zhoaqing Junhong said the tires, size LT 225/75R16 118/116S 10 PR, could experience sidewall separation while driving, which increases the risk of a crash.
Zhaoqing Junhong will notify owners and dealers will replace the tires, free of charge; the recall is expected to begin in November. The suspect tires were produced between May 8 and 21, 2016, at Zhaoqing Junhong's plant in Zhaoqing, China.
Zhaoquing Junhong said it decided to initiate the recall after it discovered some subject tires from its inventory failed an internal endurance test, and subsequent inspections indicated an adhesion failure between the sidewall rubber and ply cords.
The tires being recalled have the sidewall markings: KBU5 1816 through KBU5 2116.
Antares tires are distributed in the U.S. by Horizon Tire Co., but the recall notice makes no mention of Horizon. The brand also is sold at Walmart stores.
