WEST POINT, Miss. — About 200 volunteers from Yokohama Tire Manufacturing Mississippi (YTMM) and non-profit organization KaBOOM! banded together recently to build an eco-friendly children's playground in West Point.
The new playground will benefit more than 700 children in West Point, where YTMM has a 1 million-sq.-ft. truck tire plant, Yokohama said.
Highlights of the playground include the installation of brightly colored, environmentally safe "Cradle to Grave" certified playground equipment, according to YTMM.
YTMM and KaBOOM!, a charity devoted to providing playground space to poor children, met with West Point parents and their children in August to help design the playground and pick out color schemes and equipment, the tire maker said.
This is the third time tire maker and KaBOOM! have collaborated to create a playground, according to Yokohama. The first two were built in Southern California and Rockland, Mass., the company said.
