AKRON — Edward Francis Carter Jr., a retired executive vice president of North American sales for the former Firestone Tire & Rubber Co., died Oct. 13. He was 90.
Mr. Carter spent most of his life working for Firestone, moving up the ranks from serving as a store manager, district manager and division manager to overseeing Firestone Canada and retiring as executive vice president.
After retirement, he owned Active Tire stores from 1978-1982.
Mr. Carter was involved in numerous charity and civic organizations, including serving as founder/past president of the Automotive Informational Council in Detroit and as a board member for the Boy Scouts of America, Wright Tool Inc., The Red Cross and Summa Health System.
Preceded in death by his son Edward Francis III and sister Nancy Lasater, he is survived by his wife June; son Tom; daughters Susan, Janet and Kit; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
