WASHINGTON — Max-Trac Tire Co. Inc. is recalling 245 Avon Viper Stryke scooter tires, sizes 120/70R14, 120/70R15, 160/60R14 and 160/60R15, because of possible tread bulges or separations.
The tires were manufactured between Jan. 4, 2015 and April 8, 2017 at Vee Rubber Corp.'s plant in Bangkok, Thailand, Max-Trac told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Max-Trac's parent company, Cooper Tire & Rubber Co., first received a complaint about the Avon Viper Stryke tires from a dealer in Israel on March 1, 2017, according to the defect report.
This was followed on May 17 by a complaint from a dealer in Spain, the report said. Max-Trac tested the involved tire sizes in September, and found that all of them displayed broken tire cords at the end of testing.
Max-Trac it will replace the tires free of charge. The recalled tires should be shipped to Max-Trac to be scrapped, the company said.
