AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — Continental A.G. is contributing more than $50,000 in disaster relief for the region in Mexico affected by the earthquake on Sept. 19.
Conti also is encouraging its employeers in North America to donate money to the earthquake victims; it said it will double those amounts.
About 10 percent of Conti's global staff, more than 23,000, is employed at 20 locations in Mexico, which include development and production sites in all five of the firm's divisions.
The company suffered only minimal damage at any of its sites.
"Our thoughts are with all the people who have to deal with the consequences of the natural catastrophe," said Conti CEO Elmar Degenhart. "Mexico is one of our most important sites, and we want to contribute our part to supporting disaster relief on the ground."
Recently, Continental and its North American employees donated more than $110,000 to the American Red Cross hurricane disaster relief efforts.
Samir Salman, Continental's CEO of North America, said the Conti team in Mexico also is collecting donations of food, household items and other daily necessities.
