MIAMI — Tire Group International L.L.C. (TGI) is organizing a drive to send relief supplies to hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico, and is urging customers, colleagues, vendors and corporate friends to assist in whatever manner they deem best.
TGI, working in conjunction with SBS (Spanish Broadcasting Systems), already has sent one cargo plane full of supplies — non-perishable food and water, personal hygienic items, baby food and more — and is organizing the shipment of additional containers.
"This is a humanitarian crises," TGI President Joaquin Gonzalez Jr. said. "Now is the time to take action and come to the aid of our friends and family in Puerto Rico."
TGI staff started gathering supplies Sept. 21 — the day after Hurricane Maria swept across Puerto Rico at Category 4 strength, knocking out power across the island and wreaking wholesale infrastructure devastation — for an aid-support flight that was able to take off two days later.
TGI is accepting donations at its Miami headquarters — located at 7500 NW 35th Terrace, Miami, Fla. 33122 — and encourages others to make donations to UNICEF, Red Cross or Unidos U.S. online.
