Boeing certifies Goodyear tire for 777X passenger jet

AKRON — Boeing Co. has certified Goodyear's ultra-lightweight Flight Radial aviation tire for its 777X twin-engine passenger jet aircraft, according to the Akron-based tire maker. 

Goodyear said the Flight Radial becomes the first product to receive Boeing system part certification for the 777X.

The Flight Radial, which is among Goodyear's most advanced aviation products, features Goodyear featherweight alloy core bead technology, which reduces weight and operating costs.

Goodyear said the tire contains strong, rigid tread belts with enhanced rubber for dimensional stability, longer service life and increased cut resistance, plus other features.

Boeing, in December 2015, selected the Flight Radial for the nose and main landing gear of the 777X, which is scheduled for delivery in 2020.

Richard J. Kramer, chairman, CEO and president of Goodyear, said the certification "is a tremendous achievement and a testament to Goodyear's advanced aviation tire technology and capabilities.

"We are committed to supplying premium products and services to Boeing and look forward to equipping the Boeing 777X with our Flight Radial tire," he said.

Building on the success of the Boeing 777 and 787 Dreamliner, Boeing said the 777X will be the largest and most efficient twin-engine jet in the world.
