WASHINGTON — BMW of North America L.L.C. has petitioned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for a decision of inconsequential noncompliance regarding incorrect tire placards on certain BMW vehicles.
The petition involves 93 BMW M4 coupes and convertibles, model year 2018, manufactured between Feb. 28 and March 24, 2017, according to the NHTSA notice published in the Aug. 25 Federal Register.
Although those vehicles were equipped with 20-inch tires, their tire information placards state that they have 18-inch tires, NHTSA said.
The placards also state that the cars have a vehicle capacity weight of 390 kilograms, although the correct figure is 381 kg, the agency said.
The incorrect information will not lead to the tires' being either overloaded or incorrectly inflated, BMW told NHTSA.
Interested parties have until Sept. 25 to comment on BMW's petition. The notice may be found online.
