ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Monro Muffler Brake Inc. shareholders approved dropping the "Muffler Brake" from the firm's corporate name, effective immediately.
The change to Monro Inc. reflects the evolution of Monro's business model to providing a full range of automotive services and repairs, including tires. The name change will apply to the corporate entity only and will not affect any of the company's store brand names.
The change also coincides with the company's 60th anniversary and its reaching the $1 billion mark in annual revenue.
Shareholders also approved the appointments of John L. Auerbach and Lindsay N. Hyde to the board of directors, effective Aug. 15.
Mr. Auerbach is the founder and chairman of Eloquii Design Inc., a direct-to-consumer women's fashion brand. Ms. Hyde is the founder and CEO of Baroo, a provider of pet-related amenities in multifamily communities in large urban markets.
Mr. Auerbach and Ms. Hyde were appointed as Class 1 Directors, all of whom will be up for re-election by the firm's 2018 annual meeting.
Robert Mellor, Monro's independent chairman, cited Mr. Auerbach's expertise in digital marketing and e-commerce and Ms. Hyde's expertise in service delivery as reasons why they will be "invaluable in guiding our company as we continue to execute on our long-term strategy and capitalize on the opportunities we see in the marketplace."
