WEST POINT, Miss. — Yokohama Tire Corp. (YTC) and KaBOOM!, a national non-profit dedicated to providing safe and reliable playground equipment for children living in underserved communities, are teaming up to build new, eco-friendly playground equipment at Marshall Park in West Point, home to YTC's 1 million-sq.-ft. truck tire plant, which came on stream in 2015.
On Oct. 28, YTC volunteers will work to construct the new playground equipment at the park. Representative from the tire maker and the non-profit are going to meet with West Point children and families on Aug. 15 to design the playground and choose its color scheme.
"We are truly honored that Yokohama Tire and KaBOOM! have chosen Marshall Park to build a brand-new playground for the kids in West Point to enjoy," West Point Mayor Robbie Robinson said. "This is a dream come true for the city. Thank you, Yokohama and KaBOOM!"
This is the third project on which YTC and KaBoom! have partnered. Previously, volunteers helped to bring new playground equipment to children in Southern California and Rockport, Mass.
"We appreciate the support of the local community and are happy to give back to the community," Alan Holtschneider, YTC's director of marketing said in a statement.
"We hope this new playground will be a fun place for kids and families in the community and benefit them for years to come."
