DALLAS — Discount Tire/America's Tire has selected a site on the south side of Dallas for a 700,000-sq.-ft. distribution center to service its hundreds of stores in Texas and surrounding states.
The future warehouse, located near the intersections of I-20, I-35E and I-45, is expected to be operational by early 2019.
"Investing in southern Dallas with a new warehouse location is a key component of our growth strategy for Discount Tire in Texas," said Matt Malley, senior vice president of Discount Tire.
"This new warehouse will allow us to continue our aggressive expansion of Discount Tire's retail store footprint in Texas and the surrounding area."
Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Discount Tire operates more than 240 retail tire stores in Texas, including five opened in the past six months — in Abilene, Haslet, Missouri City, Sugar Land and Victoria.
The company is working with Dallas-based MYCON General Contractors on the project, with support from David Schleg, senior coordinator for the City of Dallas Office of Economic Development.
Discount Tire did not disclose the investment in the facility, which will be built on a 53-acre site. Ground breaking is expected later this month.
The company expects to staff the new warehouse with a mix of new employee hires and transfers from an existing location in Grand Prairie, Texas, which ultimately will be consolidated into the new facility.
Within the last decade, Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Discount Tire has expanded into 13 new states, including states surrounding Texas — Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma — and added more than 150 stores. Plans call for additional retail tire store growth.
At 944 stores and $4.5 billion-plus in annual revenue, Discount Tire is considered the largest tire retailer in North America.
