COLCHESTER, Vt. — Nokian Tyres P.L.C. has developed a second-generation of its HTS terminal tires, the Nokian HTS G2.
The new line features a load capacity in the 18.00 to 25.00 sizes of up to 38,580 pounds at 15 mph, and it has been designed to be more rugged, efficient and safe, according to Nokian Heavy Tyres.
The HTS G2 tires are a new generation of the first HTS terminal tires introduced in the early 2000s, Nokian said, and will be available either as L-4S slicks or with E-4 treads.
The HTS L-4S slicks have more contact surface, which helps extend their life.
The tires will be sold both in North American and in Europe.
"The choice of slicks or treads depends entirely on customer preference. The L-4S slicks have more contact surface, which helps extend their life, while the E-4 treads remain cooler in hot climates and over long transfer journeys, which also extends their life," said Martti Keinonen, project manager, Nokian Heavy Tyres.
The firm said the HTS G2 tires have a multilayer, cross-ply structure that provides stability and a high load-bearing capacity. The increased stability means enhanced safety, preventing reach stackers from kneeling even when handling the heavy loads.
Both the L-4S and E-4 models have a long-lasting rubber compound optimized for harbor applications, Nokian said. The rubber compound resists wear on high-friction asphalt surfaces, while the stiff cross-ply structure ensures the tires are durable and reliable.

The second-generation HTS G2 tires were launched at TOC Europe 2017 in Amsterdam on June 27. Deliveries will begin this fall in the 18.00-25 size for both L-4S slicks and E-4 treaded tires.
The larger 18.00-33 size will be available in 2018.
Nokia, Finland-based Nokian recently announced that site preparation work for its first U.S. tire plant, in Dayton, Tenn., is scheduled to start in August. The 830,000-sq.-ft. plant will be rated at 4 million car and light truck tires a year.
Nokian has approximately 4,400 employees and reported sales of $1.5 billion last year.
