Toyo's Malaysian plant hits production mark

PERAK, Malaysia—Toyo Tire & Rubber Co. Ltd.'s Malaysian subsidiary recently passed a manufacturing milestone, producing the 10 millionth tire at its car and light truck tire plant in Perak since it came on stream in 2013.

The plant, which uses Toyo's Advanced Tire Operation Module (ATOM) manufacturing system, is rated at 5 million tires a year at full capacity.

Furthermore, Toyo Tire Malaysian Sdn. Bhd. has sufficient land adjacent to the existing factory to build a similar-sized plant, making it possible to respond to future increase in market demand, the tire maker said.

Toyo invested $260 million over two years to build the plant, situated on land adjacent to the Silverstone Bhd. tire plant that Toyo acquired in early 2011.

Toyo Tire Malaysian's primary function is to supply markets in Southeast Asia, but it also exports selected products to markets in Europe, Japan and North America.
