WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — McCarthy Tire Service made two moves recently in Pennsylvania to expand coverage and improve service to its commercial customers in the eastern part of its home state.

Wilkes-Barre-based McCarthy Tire has acquired the commercial business of Sandone Tire of Scranton, Pa., and has relocated its operations in Reading, Pa., to a larger facility less than two miles away.

The moves will expand McCarthy Tire's coverage in northeastern and central Pennsylvania, according to McCarthy Tire President John D. McCarthy Jr.

    Financial details were not disclosed.

McCarthy Tire intends to merge Sandone Tire's truck tire sales and service activity with its existing commercial store in Dickson City, Pa., a community of about 6,000 just north of Scranton. The move affects eight Sandone Tire employees.

The deal does not affect Sandone Tire's retail or wholesale activities.

McCarthy recently started relocating its Reading, Pa., commercial outlet to this 32,000-sq.-ft. structure located just north of that city.

In Reading, McCarthy is moving to a 32,000-sq.-ft. facility formerly occupied by Kreitz Construction Services. McCarthy said the larger space will allow it to expand its commercial tire sales and services by adding fleet mechanical services, engine diagnostic work, and heavy-duty truck repair to its service menu.

The new location is close to US 222 and PA 61 north Reading, providing easy access for commercial and retail customers alike, Mr. McCarthy said.

The new location will continue to offer complete automotive services for passenger cars, SUVs, and light trucks. McCarthy Tire has served the Reading area since 1990.

In business since 1926, McCarthy Tire Service is considered the fifth largest independent commercial tire dealership in the U.S. with 2016 commercial-related sales of $301 million and 41 commercial service locations in nine states, stretching from New York to Georgia.

It also is ranked as the eighth largest independent retreader of light truck and medium duty truck tires, and one of the top 50 retail tire dealers in the country.
