Falken named OE for Volkswagen Touran

OFFENBACH, Germany — Volkswagen A.G. has spec'd a 16-inch version of the Falken Ziex ZE914A Ecorun tire as an OE fitment on the 2017 Touran SUV, a European-only model.

VW is using the Ziex ZE914A Ecorun in size 205/60R16 96V XL as the standard tire for the vehicle, a five-passenger four-door liftback. 

The Volkswagen minivan was the highest-selling vehicle in its class in 2016, with more than 112,000 new registrations on the European continent, according to Falken Tyre Europe G.m.b.H., a subsidiary of Japan's Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd. 

Falken said its Ziex ZE914A Ecorun tires complement the vehicle with their superb wet grip, low drive-by noise and improved rolling resistance.

"We're very proud to have been chosen as the OEM for a further vehicle in the Volkswagen stable," Christian Stolting, key account manager OE at Falken Tyre Europe, said.

"For consumers seeking a family vehicle like the Touran, safety and durability are paramount characteristics. The vehicle's tires should naturally likewise reflect these considerations without compromise."

The tires are manufactured at the Sumitomo's plant in Rayong, Thailand.

This the second Falken fitment on a European VW model announced this year. Earlier Falken announced that VW had selected Falken Ziex ZE914A Ecorun tires as OE on the 2017 Tiguan compact SUV, a four-door, five-passenger hatchback SUV available in front- or four-wheel-drive.
