CarCareONE card adding fuel option

STAMFORD, Conn. — Synchrony Financial is replacing the venerable CarCareONE credit card with a revamped card called Synchrony Car Care that offers motorists the option to pay for fuel as well as auto care expenses.

The new program expands utility and enhances benefits, while building on the same core value proposition of special financing for purchases of $199 or more, Synchrony Financial said.

To broaden the acceptance of the new card at gas stations, Synchrony is working with Discover Global Network, the third largest payments network in the world. The new card can be used for purchases at gas stations nationwide—everywhere Discover Card is accepted.

The CarCareONE card, introduced more than 30 years ago, is used by more than 3 million consumers to finance automotive aftermarket parts and services at thousands of auto repair and tire retailers, Synchrony Financial said.

"The Synchrony Car Care card is an important financial resource for drivers to maintain or improve their vehicles, and manage their family's auto spending needs with one convenient payment method," said Glenn Marino, executive vice president and CEO, payment solutions, for Synchrony Financial.

"Consumer and merchant input has been vital in enhancing this market-leading program in ways that provide greater value and flexibility to both car owners and service providers."

Synchrony Finance noted that the new card is accepted by more than 25,000 service and parts locations throughout the U.S., including Puerto Rico, and more than 185,000 fuel stations nationwide.

In addition, an updated mobile app enables users to locate nearby network partners, track expenses, manage their account and access offers via their mobile device.

The new card offers users the option for no interest payments for up to six months on charges over $199, when the full balance is paid off before the six month period expires.

For new accounts, the purchase annual percentage rate is 29.99 percent.

Detailed information, including a business locator and credit application, is available at mysynchrony.com.

Among the companies or programs listed on Synchrony's web site as accepting the new card are: Car X Tire & Auto; Express Tire; Econo Lube n' Tune; 4 Wheel Parts; Jack Williams Tire; Just Brakes; Kauffman Tire; Meineke Car Care Centers; Merlin 200,000 Miles shops; Pep Boys; MyTireShop.com; Precision Auto Tune Auto Care; Tire Pros; and Tuffy Auto Service Centers.

Tire makers Continental Tire the Americas L.L.C.; Cooper Tire & Rubber Co.; and Yokohama Tire Corp. also are endorsing the card, as is the Tire Industry Association.
