BRUSSELS — European replacement tire shipments grew in nearly every market segment in the first three months of 2017, according to the latest figures from the European Tyre & Rubber Manufacturers' Association (ETRMA).
The highest growth was in the truck bus tire sector, where shipments improved 15 percent to 2.61 million units.
Shipments of passenger tires rose 4 percent in the period to 55.4 million units in the three months to March 32, 4 percent higher than in the same period in 2016.
Replacement agricultural tires showed a slight improvement, rising to 406,000 units from 404,000, bucking the trend from last year, when shipments fell 6 percent to 1.4 million units.
Motorcycle and scooter tire sales rose 8 percent to 3.7 million units during the quarter.
