WASHINGTON — The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has granted Goodyear's petition for a decision of inconsequential noncompliance in the case of 381 Goodyear G182 RSD commercial truck tires.
The NHTSA decision means that Goodyear will not have to conduct a formal recall.
The tires, size 11R22.5 LR G, were manufactured between July 4 and Aug. 20 according to the NHTSA notice that appeared in the April 17 Federal Register.
The tires are labeled "4 PLIES STEEL CORD" instead of the correct "5 PLIES STEEL CORD," Goodyear told the agency.
Goodyear told NHTSA that the labeling error would not affect the performance of the tires or the safety of any tire retreader, repairer or recycler who handled it, according to the notice.
The notice can be found online.
