Laufenn winter tire wins design award

SEOUL, South Korea — Hankook Tire Co. Ltd.'s Laufenn I Fit studless winter tire won a Red Dot Design Award for 2017.

The Red Dot Design Award is an international design prize awarded by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen of Germany since 1955.

Since 2001, Hankook Tire has won a series of Red Dot Award recognitions.

The I Fit features an advanced tread pattern and rubber compound designed for snowy or icy winter roads, enhanced braking and safety while offering comfortable driving and long treadwear life, the company said.

Hankook said a large portion of Laufenn tire sales is mainly in North America and Europe but the tire maker is now focusing on shifting the brand's paradigm globally. Laufenn will expand its coverage from 62 countries in 2016 to 86 countries this year, the company said.

Since its initial launch in North America in 2014, the Laufenn brand has expanded to Europe, China and the Middle East. Sales of Laufenn tires increased 350 percent in 2016 over the previous year, according to Hankook.
