Sullivan employees take a chilly drench for ALS family

NORWELL, Mass. — Nearly 30 staff members at the Sullivan Tire & Auto Service headquarters in Norwell participated recently in the Ice Bucket Challenge to raise money for ALS research.

The ALS Association challenge, which was a national phenomenon last year, raises money to research a cure for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.

In honor of Pete Frates, the Massachusetts man who inspired the viral Ice Bucket Challenge, the Sullivan employees participated in their own challenge.

Mr. Frates is a former captain of the Boston College baseball team who was diagnosed with ALS in 2012 at age 27.

Paul Sullivan, vice president of marketing for the dealership, was joined by Mr. Frates' father John and brother Andrew in dumping ice cold buckets of water on the employees' heads during the event.

Mr. Sullivan met Nancy and John Frates at a Boston College baseball game and became an avid supporter of their son's cause, the dealership said.
