ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Feb. 27, 2017) — Monro Muffler Brake Inc. has hired Shawn Denlein, senior vice president, sales, for Hankook Tire America Inc. the past four-plus years, to be its senior vice president of tire merchandising.

Mr. Denlein succeeds Joe Tomarchio, who will continue to work with Monro in the area of acquisitions, Monro said.

Monro President and CEO John Van Heel cited Mr. Denlein's "extensive experience and knowledge of our industry" as key reasons for his hiring.

"In particular," Mr. Van Heel said, "his experience in developing successful programs and proprietary brands for tire manufacturers that address retail, commercial and wholesale channels will complement our deep internal expertise in retail purchasing and distribution.

"Also, his leadership and working style will fit right in at Monro as we continue to grow our company and the career opportunities for all of our employees."

Mr. Denlein, whose last day at Hankook is March 3, will report to Mr. Van Heel.

Prior to joining Monro, Mr. Denlein was senior vice president at Hankook, leading sales and logistics activities for both the retail and commercial channels in the U.S. Prior to joining Hankook in 2012, Mr. Denlein held various sales positions at Yokohama Tire Corp., including director of consumer sales for the U.S.

"I am excited to join the Monro organization, which has established a very successful growth strategy with proven results. I am looking forward to applying the knowledge gained over my career in the tire industry to help drive the continued growth and profitability of Monro," Mr. Denlein said.

Mr. Tomarchio has been with Monro since 2004 when the Rochester-based retailer bought the Mr. Tire retail network in Maryland and Virginia from Mile One Automotive, a new car dealership group. He was promoted to president, tire group, in 2006.
