ANDERSON, Ind. (Feb. 10, 2017) — Tire importer/wholesaler Sutong China Tire Resources Inc. (SCTR) has purchased a 360,000-sq.-ft. structure in Anderson that it plans to use for a distribution center.

The facility, former General Motors/Delco Remy factory, will absorb distribution from a smaller, existing warehouse in Anderson and another in Houston, SCTR said, as it ramps up toward mid-year. The facility also will provide Houston-based SCTR with needed space for future growth and provide greater distribution efficiencies.

Anderson is a city of about 65,000 located adjacent to Interstate 69 northeast of Indianapolis. The company's existing facility in Anderson houses tire-wheel assembly for lawn and garden and ST trailer tires for independent dealers, mass merchandisers and for OE trailer manufactures.

SCTR will maintain one warehouse in Houston and another in Brampton, Ontario, for the Canadian market.

Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. The previous tenant, S&S Steel Services, bought the former Delco Remy plant in June 2010 for a reported $1.5 million but vacated the premises last year after being bought in a bankruptcy case, according to local news reports.

According to its website, Sutong handles six brands exclusively — Hemisphere; Hi-Run; LongMarch; Pinnacle; Roadone; SuperCargo; and Synergy — together with the Lande and ECED associate brands.

Sutong was established in 1993 and specializes in sourcing tires from China. It claims to import more than 5 million tires per year and carries a portfolio of tires ranging from lawn and garden to medium truck.
