TOKYO (Jan. 13, 2017) — Toyota Motor Corp. has selected Bridgestone Corp.'s Turanza T005 run-flat (RFT) as the standard OE fitment on the 2017 Lexus LS sedan, the brand's "luxury flagship."
Lexus offers the LS in both standard- and long-wheelbase models and a choice of rear-wheel drive or Lexus all-weather drive. All models are powered by the firm's 386-hp, 4.6-liter V8 coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The Turanza T005 RFT employs a newly developed sidewall-reinforced rubber, Bridgestone said, which contributes to thinner sidewalls. This enhancement provides a margin of driving comfort not normally associated with run-flats.
The Lexus fitment is 245/45RF20 99Y front, and 275/40RF20 102Y rear.
Bridgestone run-flats are engineered to go up to 50 miles at up to 50 miles per hour to safety after a puncture or a loss of pressure.
