NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Dec. 20, 2016) ― Bridgestone Americas has released a limited edition Firestone Destination A/T light truck tire featuring University of Alabama/Crimson Tide raised white lettering on one sidewall.
"Tailgating is the ultimate game day experience for college football fans," said Anna Philip, Firestone brand manager, Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations.
"We designed the Alabama Tire so fans can literally Roll Tide, all year round, on a tire that delivers the dependability and durability expected from Firestone."
The special tires are available at select retailers throughout Alabama in nine sizes, ranging from P225/75R15 to P275/55R20. Prices start at $138.99, or a premium of nearly 15 percent over the manufacturer's suggested retail price for the Destination.
Bridgestone has set up a toll-free number — 844-658-0724 — for consumers to call to find out where they can buy the tires.
The initiative is reminiscent of an attempt in 2014 by All Sports Tire Co. L.L.C., an Orlando, Fla.-based private bander, to create a line of tires with college sports team names in raised outline white letter tires. The firm sold tires bearing the Florida Gators and Florida State Seminoles names, but failed to make it past the second year.
This offering, however, is purely a Bridgestone initiative, the company said, and is the brand's first-ever licensing deal with a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) football team.
This isn't the first custom offering, however. In 2015 the company offered a Special Edition Destination A/T featuring a camo carbon black design on the sidewall, which was designed with hunters and other outdoor enthusiasts in mind.
