TOKYO (Dec. 12, 2016) — Toyota Motor Corp. has approved two Bridgestone Corp. run-flat tires as OE fitments on its 2018 Lexus LC500/LC500h, the car maker's top-end luxury coupe set to debut in 2017.
Toyota will fit the Bridgestone's Potenza S001L RFT and Turanza T005 RFT in two sizes each — 245/40RF21 96Y and 275/35RF21 99Y; and 245/45RF20 99Y 275/40RF20 102Y, respectively, the Japanese tire maker said.
The tires, which Bridgestone claims can travel up to 50 miles at up to 50 mph after a puncture or loss of pressure, were designed specifically for the Lexus LC500/LC500h to achieve high driving performance.
The tires, Bridgestone added, help realize the key concepts of the Lexus LC500/LC500h image of being "even sharper (and) more refined." The Potenza will be fitted to the LC500 and the Turanza to the LC500h hybrid.
The front-engine, rear-drive 2018 Lexus LC500 and LC500h are Lexus's first full-size luxury coupes since the SC430 was phased out in 2010.
The two-door, four-passenger coupe is powered either by a 5-liter, 471-hp V8 mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission or a 3.5-liter, 295-hp V6 coupled with a multi-stage continuously variable transmission and a pair of synchronous motors.
