WASHINGTON (Nov. 16, 2016) — Goodyear has submitted a petition to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for a decision of inconsequential noncompliance in the case of 381 Goodyear G182 RSD commercial truck tires, size 11R22.5 LR G, manufactured between July 3 and Aug. 20, 2016.
These tires, Goodyear told NHTSA, have sidewall markings on one side that incorrectly identify the number of plies. The markings read, “TREAD 4 PLIES STEEL CORD,” instead of the correct “TREAD 5 PLIES STEEL CORD,” the tire maker said.
The tires meet or exceed all applicable federal safety and performance standards, and also have the correct information on plies on the opposite sidewall, Goodyear said.
All markings on the tires related to tire safety are correct, and the mismarking has no effect on either retreading or recycling, the company said.
Dec. 14 is the deadline for interested parties to comment on Goodyear's petition, NHTSA said. The notice appeared in the Nov. 14 issue of the Federal Register.
