WASHINGTON (Nov. 2, 2016) — The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has granted the petition of Michelin North America Inc. for a decision of inconsequential noncompliance regarding 186 Uniroyal Tiger Paw AWP II passenger tires.
The tires, size P215/70R15 97T, were manufactured between Jan. 10 and 13, 2016, Michelin told NHTSA.
Two of the digits in the tires' identification that indicate the week and year of manufacture were switched inadvertently, Michelin said. The date code reads “0126,” indicating the first week of 2026, instead of the correct “0216,” the tire maker said.
Although the date code is incorrect, it specifies a date well in the future that in itself creates a unique identification for those tires, Michelin said.
Also, since Michelin will change the code for the plant in question to a three-digit number by April 2025, it is impossible that any tires manufactured at that plant in January 2026 will have identical tire identification numbers to the tires named in the petition, it said.
