CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Oct. 17, 2016) — Continental Tires the Americas L.L.C. is voluntarily recalling 14,567 Cross Contact LX20 passenger tires, size P275/55R20 111S, for potential contamination to the belt package during the production process, the company said.
The tires were manufactured at Conti's Mt. Vernon, Ill., facility between May 3 and May 9, 2015, and bear the DOT identification number DOT A32A WBDE 1815, Conti said in an Oct. 14 press release.
According to the tire maker, the potential contamination may cause a lack of adhesion leading to partial or complete tread or belt loss.
Most of the tires were installed as original equipment on certain General Motors full-size truck and SUV models, with a small portion sold on the replacement market, Conti said.
The tires met all federal safety standards, but warranty returns on the tires sparked Conti to conduct a thorough analysis, the tire maker said.
Conti informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of the recall Oct. 3. The company said it has started to contact dealers, wholesalers and customers, and will replace the tires free of charge.
Tire owners who seek more information on the recall should go to Continental's Customer support web page or call Conti customer service at 888-799-2168.
