Webinar to address new overtime rule

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Oct. 13, 2016) — The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) and Small Business Administration Office of Advocacy have scheduled a webinar for small business owners on the revised overtime rule set to take effect Dec. 1.

The webinar — scheduled for 11 a.m. to noon, EDT on that day — will feature experts from Labor's Wage & Hour Division who will cover the basics of the Labor Department's final rule updating the overtime regulations of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

They also will highlight resources and guidance available for employers, and answer compliance assistance questions.

Attendees are encouraged to submit questions in advance to [email protected], although the session will include the opportunity to submit questions during the presentation's Q&A segment, the agencies said.

The DOL issued the new rule, which expands overtime pay benefits for U.S. workers, on May 18.

The rule doubles the salary threshold at which salaried workers are entitled to time-and-a-half, to $47,776 from $23,660.

Most business trade groups panned the rule, saying the regulation will be prohibitively expensive.
