WASHINGTON (Sept. 21, 2016) — The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has granted BMW of North America L.L.C.'s petition for a determination of inconsequential noncompliance involving incorrect tire information labels.
The vehicles involved are 68 BMV X5 xDrive351 and X5 xDrive35d multi-purpose vehicles, model year 2015, manufactured between Oct. 3 and Oct. 7, 2014, BMW told NHTSA.
The vehicle certification labels required by motor vehicle safety standards, and some of the tire information labels required by tire safety standards, say the vehicles were originally equipped with 18-inch tires and rims. Actually, they were equipped with 19-inch tires, according to the notice that appeared in the Sept. 13 Federal Register.
Owners have several sources to correct the erroneous information on the labels, BMW told NHTSA. These include the tire size information on the tire sidewalls, the owners' manuals, and BMW's 24-hour Roadside Assistance program, the auto maker said.
