BATON ROUGE, La. (Aug. 29, 2016) — A GoFundMe website set up to help American Tire Distributors Inc. (ATD) employees impacted by the Louisiana flooding exceeded its goal in a matter of days.
“With the tragedy unfolding due to the flooding in Louisiana, our ATD teammates in the Baton Rouge distribution center are faced with extremely challenging circumstances,” the ATD GoFundMe site said.
“Several of our employees have been displaced from their homes and are waiting for the flood waters to recede before they can determine the extent of the damage and/or loss of their home, vehicle and personal belongings.”
ATD said it was overseeing the fund drive to assist its employees displaced by the flood that decimated the Baton Rouge area after several days of rain, beginning Aug. 12, that caused rivers and levies to overflow.
ATD's Baton Rouge distribution center was one of the businesses mired in several feet of water.
The company's GoFundMe site received donations from 267 donors and reached $29,820 in a week, exceeding its $25,000 goal. In the first 24 hours of the campaign, ATD surpassed its initial goal of $10,000.
ATD said the funds will be used to help impacted employees with the process of repairing their homes, getting transportation and replacing damaged personal belongings.
