Owners of some 2004-05 Sorento models built before Oct. 6, 2004, may come into your store with a complaint that the electronic power steering (EPS) system varies its assist erratically during parking maneuvers or while driving.
Trouble code C1012 may also be stored in the EPS control module when the problem occurs.
According to Kia, one likely source of the trouble is an intermittent signal from the vehicle speed sensor. Installing an upgraded sensor, Part No. 96420 4A600, along with a new extension harness, Part No. 91400 3E999, should help eliminate further trouble.
After the installation is complete, make sure the extension harness is secured with a nylon tie to prevent excess movement.
