Founded: 1938 in Bath, Maine, by Charles Cahill Jr. as Cahill Service Station, a Mobile gas station.
Number of outlets: 1
Dealership history: After Mr. Cahill's son Charles “Skip” Cahill III joined the company in 1958, he encouraged his father to also sell tires, and the dealership evolved into Cahill Tire.
His grandson, David Cahill, worked as a youth for the dealership but later decided to open his own tire dealership, called Skip Cahill Tire Inc. in Edgecomb, Maine, in honor of his father.
When Skip Cahill retired in 2012, David and his sister, Marlene Cahill, took over ownership of the family business. Both dealerships are now part of the Tire Pros network, with 80 percent of sales coming from tires and related services and 20 percent from gasoline, the Cahills said.
Biggest challenge: “Prob¬¬ably living up to what they set—my father and my grandfather.… And trying to be as well-respected as them and keep the name out there; living up to expectations and the standard that they set,” David Cahill told Tire Business.
