Helping to build the new playground at Hartsuff Park in Rockland, Mass. are (from left) Rep. John Keenan; Rick Phillips, vice president of sales for Yokohama Tire.

ROCKLAND, Mass. (June 30, 2016) — Children in Rockland have a brand new place to run, climb, spin and slide thanks to the efforts of Yokohama Tire Corp., Sullivan Tire Co., KaBOOM! and volunteers from the Rockland Park Department, Play Areas for Rockland Kids (PARK) and the greater Rockland community.

More than 150 volunteers came together to build the eco-friendly playground, which represents just one facet of Yokohama's ongoing partnership commitment with KaBOOM!, a national nonprofit dedicated to ensuring all children have opportunities for balanced, active play.

“We had more than 150 volunteers from the community join in and help build the playground at Hartsuff Park in one day, and it will benefit children and their families for many years,” said Alan Holtschneider, director of marketing for Yokohama.

Rick Phillips, vice president of sales for Yokohama Tire Corp. (left) and Paul Sullivan, vice president of marketing for Sullivan Tire put up the sign for the new Hartsuff Park playground

“We're glad Paul Sullivan and the Sullivan Tire team joined us, as well as all the other partners, to make this dream become a reality.”

KaBOOM! is the charity recipient of the annual Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic in Prattville, Ala. All proceeds from the tournament fund playground builds to make sure kids get the recommended 60 minutes of daily physical activity to be healthy and establish lifelong healthy habits, Yokohama said.

Before volunteers came together to build the playground equipment, representatives from Yokohama, Sullivan Tire and KaBOOM! met with local parents and children to design the play area. The children helped with choosing a color scheme and picking out the equipment that was installed by volunteers at Hartsuff Park.

Volunteers worked together to set up the three-person slide at Hartsuff Park in Rockland, Mass.

“Rockland was glad to provide the land and Park Department resources for the new playground,” said Allan Chiocca, Rockland town administrator. “This is an incredible addition to the recreation opportunities for children and families in Rockland.”

Yokohama and KaBOOM! are continuing their partnership with additional playground builds and will announce those plans soon, according to Mr. Holtschneider.
