DETROIT (June 20, 2016) — As the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the debut of the new Ford GT racer loomed over Ford Motor Co.'s head last weekend, the Blue Oval did what we all should do to manage stress — play with a pile of Legos.
Well, actually the auto maker worked with master Lego modeler Pascal Lenhard to craft a model of the Le Mans-winning Ford GT40 Mk2 p/1046 and one of the modern Ford GT that will made its Le Mans debut.
Turning the Lego blocks into some semblance of the race cars' shape would be noteworthy, but Mr. Lenhard's mastery went above and beyond — creating not only the shape but also including the different sponsors and liveries. The contemporary Ford GT Lego adaptation even includes faux-LCD position screens and the massive rear diffuser.
Somehow the build only took Mr. Lenhard about three weeks — using around 40,000 Lego pieces.
Check out the video if you want to see the cars before they were complete. Anyone attending the 24 Hours of Le Mans could see the two Lego masterpieces on display at the event.
