Michelin improves off-road tire

GREENVILLE, S.C. (June 8, 2016) — Michelin North America Inc. is offering an improved version of its Michelin XZY3 on/off-road tire for construction and tanker applications.

The new Michelin X Works Z, an all-position tire, replaces the XZY3 and features tougher casing durability, increased uptime and removal mileage, and a road-hazard guarantee, Michelin said.

The tire features a 50-percent wider protector ply and a thicker layer of shock-absorbing cushion gum to provide extra protection and casing durability. The tread features groove bottom protectors to prevent stone drilling and V-channels to help resist stone retention; a hard-packed cable package and thicker sidewalls help protect the casing, the company said.

Due to the improved construction and compounding, Michelin said the tire provides a 5-percent increase in removal mileage.

Michelin is offering for the first time a six-month “worry-free road hazard guarantee” for the X Works Z, which credits a fleet $200 if the tire is deemed out-of-service within the first six months or before 50 percent of its usable tread life.

“Construction, energy and tanker customers demand a tire that fights against road hazards so they can keep running and get their work done,” said Adam Murphy, vice president of marketing for Michelin Americas Truck Tires. “With multiple features to protect the casing and sidewall from shocks and impacts, the new Michelin X Works Z delivers the uptime, durability and capping those fleets demand.”

The tire is available now in 11R22.5, 12R22.5 and 11R24.5 sizes in load range H and a 315/80R22.5 size in load range L. A 12R24.5 size in load range H will be available later this year.

The tire is available in the U.S. and Canada and is produced at Michelin's North American facilities, officials said.
