Some 2007-09 Infiniti G35 and M35/45 sedans, 2008-09 EX35s and G37 coupes and 2009 FX35/50 SUVs may produce a click-type sound from one or both rear axles.
According to Infiniti, the problem is most obvious when accelerating from a stop, and is due to rust or corrosion building up between the outer CV joint and axle hub.
Removing both rear axles, sanding the joint flanges and applying a liberal amount of Molykote 77 grease, Part No. 44003-7S000, to the flange areas should eliminate the noise immediately.
"Factory Fixes" is written by Jim DePalma, a 30-year veteran of the auto repair business who has served stints as a service manager, parts manager and ASE-certified technician. His column provides vehicle manufacturers' authentic factory technical service bulletins (TSBs) that have been condensed for easier reading. Mr. DePalma advises that techs always check with a dealer or repair information system for the latest revisions before starting to work on a vehicle.
